Designing and implementing new key leadership processes and practices to deploy a new strategy
The global leader in the welding industry, a perennial and very
traditional US-based multinational company, had faced years of stiff global
competition in different fronts.
The company started in 1895 and had grown
organically for the better part of its
first century and enjoyed a solid leadership position in the US. However, the
situation abroad was different.
To compete in the international arena, the company embraced growth
through a number of acquisitions, which
forced the company to stretch its management bench too thin across different
regions.
Additionally, although the company had historically invested
significantly in salesforce development, that was not the case in other areas
(operations, finance, etc.). its leadership ranks were not at the level
required to manage the integration and subsequently, run these new businesses
effectively.
Through a collaborative effort, which included the participation of
the C-suite as well as regional management teams,, we put in place different
leadership and management development programs which followed a similar core
structure.
Starting with Regional and Country Managers, and extending to
High-Potentials and functional leaders, the company was able to offer a suite
of developmental opportunities to its top employees around the world, which
resulted in higher levels of engagement and long-term commitment towards the
company.
Initially, we designed a management development program (MDP),
aimed at regional management teams, which was delivered across different
regions. This program was delivered in regions as diverse as Mexico and China,
with significant success in meeting its goals.
Finally, we designed and implemented a global Leadership
Development Program, focused on producing P&L management skills in
high-potential employees, which helped prepare the next generation of MDs for
the different operations around the world.
